This City of Winston-Salem water tank was recently painted by the artist DAAS,

who has studied art in Japan.  The flecks of different colors strewn about

remind me of origami paper art.

Please go to the link http://tankoftheyear.tnemec.com/

and cast a vote for the otter tank

before 5:00 pm EST October 19, 2018!!

Unique View of Pilot Mountain

December 28, 2011

North Carolina has a very unique natural feature

called Pilot Mountain, which appears to rise out of nowhere.

Native Americans were said to use it as a landmark

and called the mountain Jomeokee –

The “Great Guide” or “Pilot”.

~~~
This view overlooks Lake Larissa,
a man-made lake in a beautiful setting.
I’m lucky enough to work just a few
minutes away from this area.
~~~~~~~

Click on the first photo to enlarge and

see if you can find the ducks on the lake,

~~~~~
Click on the second photo to make out the unusual
shape of Pilot Mountain a little better.
~~~

Click here and here to see more photos taken of Pilot and

the view from the overlook at the state park.

~~~~~
The trails at Pilot Mountain State Park are also
part of the NC Birding Trails.
